First 10 Steps to a Successful Website
Part 1 - ARTICLES & RESOURCES

1-Articles & Resources    2-Planning    3-Objectives/Goals    4-Market Research    5-Domain Name    6-Design    7-Hosting    8-Maintenance    9-Marketing    10 - SPECIAL FREE BONUSES!

This page contains links to many articles, written by many people who design websites professionally, dealing with each of the 10 first steps to a successful website. Long before you shell out money for a domain name and host, you should read each one of these articles, taking notes and making comments as they relate to your own website.

As you read this and following pages, you will see some tools in use that you might like to have on your own site (such as the easy-to-use PRINT THIS PAGE button at the top).

Or look at the bottom of the page where you will see an automatically-updating copyright notice and also what we call a "breadcrumb trail" that shows you the page you're on and how to go back through this site step-by-step or back to the home page in one big jump.

Just click your browser's BACK button to return to this spot or click the BACK-TO-THE-TOP icon at the bottom of the page ... and I'll show you how easy it is to do that on your own website, too.

How many times have you printed out a web page then can't remember where you saw it online? This is a great bonus for those who want to print out your web pages because it easily allows them to go back online and re-find it.

Watch for Our Grand Opening!

I show you how to simply cut-and-paste these into your site in the WEB TOOLS SECTION. For now, we'll keep it simple, introducing you to advanced effects as we progress, but as you do you'll begin to see the tremendous benefits in joining My-WebShop and gaining free access to all these tools and many, many more!

I'll share many of these tools with you now, ABSOLUTELY FREE, because I am personally convinced that the more you see, the more you'll want ... and it will prove to you that this is no scam website just trying to sell you some overblown eBook or software you'll never use!

For now, the WEB TOOLS SECTION is not even online and I am not even accepting memberships. I want it to be right before I take that last step. Too many times I've been to websites where they try to sell you something expensive and you then find out their site is "still under construction" and you may have to wait months before they have anything to offer.

Not here! We serve no tools before their time, to rip off a once-popular advertising slogan. When I have it together enough to offer you real value for your low-cost membership, then I'll have a spectacular Grand Opening ... and I'll tell you right now - YOU WILL BE INVITED!

5 Steps Before You Design Your Site
1-Articles & Resources    2-Planning    3-Objectives/Goals    4-Market Research    5-Domain Name

Remember to plan your website on paper before you ever lay a finger to the keyboard. It will save you a lot of time, money and grief, since it helps prevent you from having to back and redo things over and over again on an increasing number of pages.

One thing to consider as we begin this adventure is this:

PRICELESS TIP!
You can actually earn money
from your website
if you plan ahead.
How?

By creating an eBook from your website on floppy disc or - better yet - on CD. This becomes a valuable tool you can sell or give away over the counter from your bricks-and-mortar business, at trade shows, health fairs, seminars, workshops - you name it!

If your have a business and employ salesmen, it makes a great giveaway that can boost your in-store sales, too.

While there may initially be gaps in the sections below, additional resources, articles and links will be added as soon as possible. Check back often for an updated library.

IMPORTANT TIP!
NOTE: All external sites will open in a new window.
We do not "trap" other sites in a frame.
To return to this page, just close the new window.

Start out small with a free online business card from Business Card Creator. You can design a business card online, then save the image to your hard drive and use it later either on your own website or on one of the free "business card sites" we'll introduce you to later. This helps you get your feet wet and get started with a small, manageable step instead of having to cope with the complexities of a large web site the very first thing.

IMPORTANT TIP!

Better yet - bookmark this page!
In IE 4x/5x/6x, that option should have appeared when you first loaded this page. In Netscape, Firefox and non-IE browsers, you may need to press CTRL-D. Try it now!

Then, if you re-open it and see the same list as before, simply press F5 or CTRL-R to refresh the page, because you are probably looking at an outdated copy that is stored on your own hard drive - not the latest copy available on our website.

1-Articles & Resources

NOTE: Some of the article titles below are not yet links (links are underlined and in blue, like this - which by the way is NOT a link). The titles are being added and organized and will come online as they are completed. The links in the box below will take you to thousands of free articles that are available on other websites that I personally recommend.

The articles presented below and throughout this site are not just my opinion, but represent the views of many different authors (some call themselves "experts" - that's for you to judge). I present a range of viewpoints so you can get a broader sense of what's out there and apply what feels right to your own plans.

For instance, you will find articles on the "value" and the creation of pop-up windows; I detest pop-up windows and will only use them for educational purposes, not for ads. But you may feel differently, so make your own choices. So let it be said that not all of the opinions expressed here represent my own opinions; I'm opinionated enough as it is, which you'll find out soon enough.

2-Planning

Remember to plan your website on paper before you ever lay a finger to the keyboard. It will save you a lot of time, money and grief, since it helps prevent you from having to back and redo things over and over again on an increasing number of pages.

3-Objectives/Goals

So you think you're ready to start writing that great website? Whoooops, hold on, partner - not yet! Just what do you want to accomplish with your website? Your 15 minutes of fame? Someplace where you can admire your own photo every day (and hope the rest of the world is as infatuated with you as you are)? A website for a social or political cause? A clever way to keep in touch with family and friends? An online business designed to bring in income?
